If you think you have what it takes to rise to the top or simply want to have a good time, Battle Royale is for you!

Entry Fee

The entry fee has been waived this year; we're trialling a new pay-what-you-can system!
In other words, entry into the League of Legends, VALORANT, Rocket League, and game jam events is free, but donations are highly encouraged.
If you're entering in a gaming tournament, we encourage a donation of around $8 or more... it's all for a great cause!

Game jam participants don't need to sign up on smash.gg; it's only necessary if a donation is being made!

Games

Every year, Battle Royale has been one of the most epic gaming competitions in Ottawa, with legendary prizes and intense games; this year is no exception.
Battle Royale 14 will feature League of Legends, VALORANT, and Rocket League, with each game featuring its own tournament and prize pool!

Prize Pools

The gaming portion of Battle Royale 14 offers a prize pool of $590, with prize pools of $250 for League of Legends and VALORANT and a prize pool of $90 for Rocket League.

League of Legends and VALORANT

1^st place: $125 split evenly
2^nd place: $75 split evenly
3^rd place: $50 split evenly

Rocket League

1^st place: $60 split evenly
2^nd place: $30 split evenly

New to Battle Royale this year, we'll be streaming select games from our gaming tournaments on our Twitch channel.

Game Jam

New to Battle Royale this year is a game jam!
In teams of 1 to 4, you can choose to either come up with a game design or program a minigame using the language of your choosing.
We're also giving away $410 as rewards for the best submissions and for simply participating! We also strongly encourage game jam participants to make a donation to the Ottawa Food Bank!

To get you started, we're proud to be able to offer workshops from some of our partners such as Ubisoft Halifax and Propel VR.

We'll also be raffling $80 to a random team who has submitted a valid project!
Winners of previous categories aren't eligible for this raffle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely anyone over 13 years of age can participate in Battle Royale. Many students from Carleton University, University of Ottawa, and Algonquin College attend, so it's a great opportunity to socialize with them.

Of course not! Simply attend the events and tournaments that you've signed up for. It's encouraged that you stay around in the server to socialize with others!

This year, we're offering 3 prized tournaments: League of Legends, VALORANT, and Rocket League. The prize pool amounts are based on the anticipated turnout of each gaming tournament.

A missed game results in automatic forfeiture and puts your team at risk at having an incomplete team. Please contact us in advance if you're unable to attend a tournament so we can find a substitute and minimize the impact on your team.

No worries! If you're looking for a team to play with, our Discord server offers a text channel, #team-formation, for you to recruit and find other teams to join! If you're unable to find a team, the organizers will do their best to pair you up with others who are in the same boat as you.

A game jam is an event where participants are challenged with creating a video game from scratch. For Battle Royale 14, we're challenging students to complete one of the following categories in teams of 1 to 4:

Come up with an elaborate and unique game design; or
Program a functional minigame using the language of your choice.

Although it is highly encouraged to get a complete product, there is no need to submit anything for the game jam if you don't feel comfortable doing so. The whole purpose of this event is for you to learn game development.
